Surrounded by woodland and bocage, Hambye Abbey was once at the heart of a vast heathland of dry grass and little copses. The paths that criss-cross the site lead you through the many species of this area of low vegetation and shrubs. The Sienne and the Doquette are the main waterways running through the site and are both ideal for the reproduction of migratory fish. The rivers supply the surrounding meadows with sustenance and create little ponds and damp patches rich in rare plant species. If you’re lucky, you may see the fragile and thin-bodied cordulia dragonfly.
